ON- GOING LIBRARY PROGRAMS

Book Discussion

This group meets monthly to discuss a chosen book. Titles alternate between fiction and non-fiction. The group is made up of residents of both Nottingham and Northwood and the meetings alternate between the two town libraries as well.  See Book Discussion Titles page for a list of the books we have read since the group started in 1990.

Story Hours for Children (September – June)

Please call the library at 679-8484 to register.

Lapsit story hour and playgroup
(age birth – 24 months)

Our  “baby” group offers an opportunity for babies and their caregivers to gather for rhymes, songs and puppets. A simple book intended for this age is generally highlighted. Each session concludes with time for parents to socialize and for children to engage in free play and toy exploration.  This program will meet on Thursday mornings at 9:00 AM.

Family Story Hour (age 24 months and older with an adult)

The Tuesday “family” story time offers a variety of books, songs, finger plays and felt board activities. Every session concludes with a craft. Parents/Caregivers attend the program with their children and siblings are welcome.

Story hour (ages three – six years)

Our Wednesday and Thursday story times are geared for the longer attention span of the preschool child. These 45 minute programs include stories, finger plays, songs and puppets. Each session concludes with a craft project. Depending on the size of the group, parents may be enlisted to help out with this part of the program!  The Wednesday group is full at this time.

Summer Reading Program (July – August)

Summertime and the Reading is Easy was this summer’s program.  Over 100 children joined in the weekly workshops for songs, crafts and of course great books.  A record number of books were read this summer by both children and adults.  We would like to thank the following businesses for supplying the popular reading incentives: Demmon’s Store, Golicks Dairy bar, Liars Paradise, Movie Scene, Rebecca’s ice Cream Shoppe and Spinelli Cinemas.

Every summer, the library offers fun incentives to keep children reading all summer long.  There are workshops of stories, games and crafts are available for children ages 4 and up.  Look here for more information on the 2010 program next spring.
